We spoke to Nayyar Ansari, Business Development Manager Production Print at Konica Minolta, who explains why they decided to take part in the Innovation Trail at this year’s Gulf Print & Pack 2019 and what they will be demonstrating on their stand (2G10).
Can you just tell us a bit about your company’s presence in the UAE/Middle East? (e.g. how long they’ve been there, their operation there, key machines etc.)
Konica Minolta Business Technologies started its operation as a sales office in 2005 and in 2012 we became a subsidiary of Konica Minolta Inc. now known as Konica Minolta Business Solutions Middle East. We are located in the Free Zone in Jebel Ali and work with key partners across the Middle East region and Pakistan. Konica Minolta has one of the widest product portfolios in the commercial printing marketplace and we are justifiably proud of our long heritage in inkjet as well as toner systems. We have had substantial growth in commercial printing, a market we entered only a few years ago in this region and we are already a leader in mid- and low volume production markets; all these products come under the AccurioPress branding.
Why did your company decide to participate in the Innovation Trail at Gulf Print & Pack 2019?
Printers today require new ideas and business tools to help them capture the new markets that are emerging, they need to grasp every opportunity to grow their business and profitability. Konica Minolta has always been known as an innovator who continuously looks for new ways to help customers evolve and add value through creative solutions. On the booth we will be able to demonstrate to a larger audience our latest technology and future ideas. It’s very important to have open dialogue with customers at every level, and we believe that by taking part in the Innovation Trail it will expand our communication channels even further and stimulate interesting conversation and debate. We want to talk to as many people as possible in the few days we are exhibiting at Gulf Print & Pack 2019 and this seemed the best way to connect.
Can you talk us through the innovations you will be showcasing in your live demonstrations at the show?
The JETVARNISH 3DS is a unique technology that takes printing to the next level by adding more value to printed documents, featuring increased output for flat spot UV jobs and elegant 3D raised effects. It is designed and manufactured by MGI with Konica Minolta to help printers expand their services. The MGI’s JETVARNISH 3DS has the ability to convert a regular printed output into high-margin spot UV printed sheets, or even higher margin 3D embossed jobs with up to 100 microns of varnish.
MGI’s JETVARNISH 3DS offers users the flexibility for two powerful and highly sought - after digital finishing capabilities that include the traditional flat spot UV coating and the 3D digital effects. The machine, with digitally foil and emboss capabilities, can take inputs from the digital machines and offset as well.
What do you feel are the key trends in the region and how will your innovations help move the industry forward?
The label sector continues to be a growing market and was forecast by Smithers Pira to be worth a total of $36.98 billion in 2017. This same source also predicts that growth will continue at an average rate of 4.1% per year up to 2022, making labels a $45.22 billion market by then. Together the two digital printing techniques of electrophotography and inkjet accounted for 28% of label production by value globally in 2017, although this equated to just 11% of the volume of labels produced, illustrating that the inherent nature of digital print brings distinct advantages for added-value label printing. Our own Konica Minolta AccurioLabel 190 press was originally designed to address exactly these needs for small to medium sized label converters. We are seeing the AL 190 becoming a viable solution for larger and larger label converters looking for a press to complement their high-end digital printing systems.
What are you hoping visitors to your stand will learn?
That we are an innovative company who continues to push the boundaries and technology.
